The tapestries are wool, the colors are created with natural dyes. Southwest tapestry techniques of the Spanish tradition are the base of my work. The study of prehistoric Anasazi twill weaving led to my adaptation of it, which I call twill tapestry. Twill tapestry employs a sequence of four, most tapestry is in two. In the twill I am able to indroduce ikat dyeing in two parts of the sequence, and tapestry in the remaining two. I also work tapestry desgins in two sequences, with a variation of the first design in the second pair of sequences. this creates color blending opportunities. Two entirely different designs can superimpose each other.
A tapestry weaving is able to take form and design from a close relation to the structure and processes of weaving. This, along with a measure of the unpredictable or unplanned aspects of design are central to my inspirations.
