Rio Grande Weaving Styles
Weavers

The Rio Grande/Chimayo weaving tradition was strictly a blanket tradition until people started asking for rugs in the last 50 years or so. We have accomodated by producing a much thicker and coarser textile meant to take a lot of wear and tear. At Centinela we have developed special rug yarns for these, and have a broad range of colors available to us because we do a lot of hand dyeing to produce our rug yarns. We use the same looms and the same tapestry techniques on these as the finer blanket weight weavings.

We often weave custom rugs, and can weave them up to twelve feet wide. See Custom Rugs for more information on how to order these.

With the exception of the rag rugs, these pieces are 100% wool. And all of these are handwoven by local weavers.
