Coats and Jackets

We often hear from our customers about old Chimayo coats their parents or even grandparents bought on long ago trips to New Mexico. These coats may have worn-out linings, but are otherwise pretty much new looking. every time I see them I am impressed by their hardiness. A wide variety of patterns exist in these historic coats, but the colors are all consistently bright. We produce a number of coats in different patterns and in endless color variations, both in the energetic colors of the old coats, and in more subtle combinations. These are warm and functional coats. This was followed by a version of the cutes largos, or Long Coats, which had a local history all their own. In the latter 1920's, several bachelors (who later became weavers and dealers) would show up at local dances in these long coats. It may have been only camaraderie, really--perhaps with a dash of bravado--but the group managed to charm all the pretty s and acquired the name Los Cutes Largos (The Long Coats). Irvin's father, Jake Trujillo was one of these men, and we remember him and his bachelor days with this coat.
