Moki is a particular kind of Rio Grande striped blanket. It is usually alternating indigo blue and natural black rhythmic banding, with natural white stripes breaking up the repetition of the blue and black. It is a pattern woven in old blankets and color combination that is simple and almost universally appealing. It has been woven in Chimayo since the 1700's. Our weavers occasionally weave the same patterns but with different colors and we will include them here as Moki.
This style is important as it is a style which crosses ethnic boundaries in Southwestern weaving traditions. This design originated with Spanish weavers and was adopted by Hopi and Navajo weavers.
