There are not a lot of pictorial blankets woven in Spanish Colonial New Mexico. However, there are some that were woven and survive to the present day. It's a natural for weavers to try to weave imagery into their tapestries, given the potential of the technique. I think we all make some forays into pictorial weaving, although what we choose as subject matter is very varied and personal. So here is what we have now that is pictorial, but not too much like a "tree of life", which is another category here, or a thunderbird, which would often occur on Chimayo pieces.
