Ginnie Valdez

My name is Ginnie Valdez. I have been weaving for 21 years. My family and I picked up weaving as a hobby and eventually made a career out of it. It started when my husband became interested in weaving while watching his sister and her husband weave. He then started learning on his own and eventually taught all our children. I was the last one in our family to learn to weave and it didn't come easy to me. I truly enjoy weaving because I can express myself through my weavings. I sometimes weave Chimayo style and Rio Grande style weavings. Other times, I weave Moki style. Some of my pieces have been sold at the Spanish Market in Santa Fe where Spanish Colonial craftsmen of every kind display their art. For the last several years, I have sold my pieces to Centinela Traditional Arts in Chimayo, New Mexico. I am proud to sell my work to them because they only accept high-quality weavings
