Leigh Alexander is an award-winning master weaver who has travelled the world
to explore and learn textile techniques. She began weaving when she was eleven and
continues to expand her repertoire of techniques. She lived in Finland for a year
working in a spinning mill and in Thailand for several years working with the silk
weavers. A graduate from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Leigh has
worked for such well-known textile designers as Jack Lenore Larsen and j.
morgan puett in NYC and Putumayo in Charleston, SC. as a production weaver,
dyer, cutter, colorist, designers' consultant, housewares designer, production
manager and assistant designer.
Leigh has had her own weaving business since 1999, designing and producing
household textiles. She has just completed 4 years as the project manager for
Heritage Blankets NM at the Espanola Valley Fiber Arts Center and is now
developing a new line of rugs and drapes. She is also setting up a computer loom
at Makespace Santa Fe.
