Always Greener came out of a developing awareness of how the two sides of tapestry weaving, pictorial and geometric, relate to each other. It always seems like there is just a shade of jealousy about the other side having it easier, either making or selling their work, or just getting respect for it. So this piece was about taking naturalistic shapes and making them geometric. It was woven in 2000, and it is here from the owner on consignment. This type of handwoven wool blanket is commonly used as a wall hanging, or draped over the back of a couch. The piece has natural as a background color and greens, tans, browns, pink, and oatmeal included in its design. It uses natural dyes, which means that yarn in this piece uses dyes that were obtained from flowers, leaves, wood, or insects. It was woven by Lisa Trujillo who is a spinner and weaver with more than thirty years of weaving in the Chimayo and Rio Grande tradition, Lisa has won many awards at Spanish Market. It measures approximately 54 by 90 inches.
