The piece is a variation on the Vallero blanket. I have used the eight points of the star to make somewhat subtle spiders. As a spinner, spiders are sort of a natural identification for me. The piece also uses some creatively dyed wool that leaves some really interesting patterning. A lot of what happens in this piece is me adjusting the width those creatively dyed wools covered and seeing the changes it made. This type of handwoven wool blanket is commonly used as a wall hanging, or draped over the back of a couch. This piece has purple as a background color and orange, pink, and natural, included in its design. It uses natural dyes, which means that yarn in this piece uses dyes that were obtained from flowers, leaves, wood, or insects. It was woven by Lisa Trujillo who is a spinner and weaver with more than thirty years of weaving in the Chimayo and Rio Grande tradition, Lisa has won many awards at Spanish Market. It measures approximately 54 by 90 inches.
