One of my favorite approaches to weaving is to play with all the leftover bits of color that we have in the shop and see what the colors look like they should be. These colors remind me of the pretty semi-precious stone called Carnelian, which comes from the part of the world we were only starting our long war with when I started this piece. I drew from Afghan design ideas and put them into the Vallero blanket of the Rio Grande tradition. This type of handwoven wool blanket is commonly used as a wall hanging, or draped over the back of a couch. This piece has many rainbow colors included in its design. It uses commercial dyes, which means that this yarn was dyed by our yarn suppliers. It was woven by Lisa Trujillo who is a spinner and weaver with more than thirty years of weaving in the Chimayo and Rio Grande tradition, Lisa has won many awards at Spanish Market. It measures approximately 54 by 84 inches.
